Does it pay to wait for opportunities or should we create them? Opportunities will rarely come to those who sit on their couch watching the soaps. In fact, sitting in your living room waiting for a hand to come out of heaven with a million dollars in it is just as unlikely as a leopard changing its spots to stripes.
One old cliché says, “Good things come to those who wait.” I say that good things are the leftovers from people that got the best things because they decided not to wait. The great and always funny comedian, Jonathan Winters, once said, “I couldn’t wait for success so I went on without it.” People will not always recognize your talent, but they will give voice to your persistence.
Are you sitting and waiting for someone or something extraordinary to happen for you? Have you been sitting back in hope that God will somehow touch someone’s heart to give you enough money to start your business? Have you thought about the opportunities you miss on a daily basis while waiting for your miracle? Let’s face it; opportunities are more frequent than miracles. I am not belittling or dismissing the reality of miracles. I am merely stating the truth when it comes to a person that is in position to make something positive happen for him or herself.
The person who sits back and hopes that something will happen in their favor is usually lacking inspiration. Discover ways to ignite your inspiration. What kinds of people inspire you? Start looking for inspiration in the most unlikely places. In fact, look for inspiration everywhere—in movies, books, TV Shows or people you encounter daily. Some of the most highly paid people in the nation are in the business of inspiring others. Many of these wealthy people have claimed to receive their inspiration from helping others. For instance, Oprah Winfrey, she inspires millions while she herself is inspired by the people her foundation has helped. The Oprah Winfrey Foundation has helped to empower women, children and families by providing opportunities for a better education, start up businesses and other worthy causes. She is known as the greatest female philanthropist in the United States because she helps people help themselves. I believe because she is such a giver to the cause of humankind, her mind is constantly open to more ideas to increase her billionaire status.
Inspiration has always come from giving and so does opportunity. Sir John Templeton asked himself this question; “Is it my philosophy that what I am given—in terms of my abilities, my intelligence, and my material success—should be returned to the world in some form that will help others?” By answering yes to this question, you are already a giver and your life is enriched. Keep in mind that spiritual progress and material success are closely connected. Never be afraid to give. Serve others and you serve yourself. If you are intimidated about giving, you lock yourself out of opportunities and can become completely blind to the ones that are right in front of your face.
You can live an incredible wealthy life if you can believe that you can live an incredible wealthy life. Unfortunately, most people believe just the opposite. Therefore, these people struggle with increasing their wealth, but have no problem with increasing their debt. They are disgruntled, discouraged, and often depressed about everything in their world. However, it does not have to be this way. Incomes of people have changed just because they started thinking differently and speaking differently. Beloved, that is all that is needed—an attitude adjustment. If you look up there is no limit, but if you look down, you are standing on it.
