Now, before you start to think of where I might be headed with this title and you commence to criticize me—thinking that I disapprove of people who are overweight; stop, and do not jump to conclusions. Read the entire article. Personally, I do not make a hobby out of criticizing people who may be overweight or underweight. My aim is to help people establish a strong perception of who they are and to facilitate as they work to build a healthy self-esteem about themselves. The excess weight I am writing about is a person carrying with them all the additional weight of concerns.
Are you carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders? Are you stressed out on your job because the job you believed to be an answer to your prayers is overloading you with more responsibility than you think you can handle? Do your preconceived ideas about the marriage you thought was made in heaven seem to have wound up being strategically designed from hell? If you answered yes to all of the above, then you may have added this excess weight without realizing how your imaginative concepts, which derived from your unrealistic expectations, have drawn a false picture of reality.
I am not suggesting that a person should live without having any expectations for their life or business; but what I am suggesting is that the person’s expectations should be shrouded in their effort and motivation. In other words, a person who works hard at developing their skill levels—consistently pushing their personal development ceiling higher, has every right to live in the mode of expectancy and anticipation of a realistic future.
If a person claims to have faith for what they want out of life, but expects to achieve his or her life’s purpose without hard-work and effort to coincide with their supposed faith, then what they have is a false hope which is a fantasy of a magical dream—only to wake up to realize it was a dream.
When you make assumptions before you know the facts or imagine the worst case scenario, you might find yourself battling the problem before it actually exists. The extra weight is in your head, and this is what drags you into the cave of despair. Living your life without a plan because you think life may end tomorrow is adding a lot of weight.
These symptoms are similar to the disease called Bulimia. Meaning, instead of eating sensibly, a person punishes him or herself by purging, fasting, or exercising to get rid of the calories. This vicious cycle of binging and purging takes a toll on your body and emotional well-being. To plainly put it, Bulimia Nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by frequent episodes of binge eating, followed by frantic efforts to avoid gaining weight. When a person is struggling with bulimia, life is a constant battle between the desire to lose weight or stay thin and the overwhelming compulsion to binge eat.
This is what I’m describing for the person who wants to succeed and live victorious, but for some deep-seated reason swimming around in their head, they find ways to sabotage any real hope of making their life more exhilarating and their goals not only realistic but a achievable.
Nonetheless, I have good news. The cycle can be broken and you don’t have to do what you don’t want to do. You can be completely guilt free from shame and anxiety. Knowing this information, which is just a tip bit, can help you develop a healthier relationship first with yourself, then with others and the world around you. And, believe you me, you will not even scratch the surface of how your life can and will climb the stairwell to victorious living. And, as a bonus, you will not sweat the small stuff.
The answer is in you knowing how to respond to these two simple questions.
- Who are you? You are not who you are on the outside; you are who you are on the inside. If you believe you are internally beautiful and capable of achievability, you will reflect those same sentiments in your personality.
- What are you capable of achieving? Your ability is wrapped in your life’s purpose not in your ambitions. When Michael Jordan went from basketball to playing baseball, he flopped. When he returned to playing what he was good at playing instead of his ambition to play baseball, he succeeded.
Don’t worry about not being able to discover your purpose right now, just follow your passion of what you love to do. As you do this, you will stumble on what you can do better than anything else, then your purpose will come to light upon you. That will be when ideas will flood your heart of how to push the ceiling up for your development and you will be able to see that you never truly needed anyone’s approval.
The only weight you should be carrying through life is your own.
