I discovered that there are more people who will laugh at your dream when you talk about it than there are people who will laugh at your attempt to achieve it; but no one will laugh when you accomplish your dream.
The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing. Like most people, it is extremely more comfortable to talk about doing something than it is to actually do it. It costs you more than you ever anticipated spending to live your dreams, than it does for you to get a job. A person who is willing to live on less to achieve their goals understands that they have more to live for.
The ability to dream is not the distinguishing factor between the consumer and the merchant; rather, it is the ability to endure the challenges to make their dream happen. You can’t be afraid to fall short of your goal because you if you don’t, you’ll never know how far you have to jump. Don’t ever be afraid to dream; but you shouldn’t be afraid to wake up either!
The person who attains the ability to take full possession of his or her own mind and become responsible for his or her every action, fabricated by their audacity to believe, will also take possession of everything for which their mind and actions are justly entitled. Innovation and the use of one’s imagination is the distinction between the people who own their dreams and the person whose dream are still on hold.
“No one can possibly achieve any real and lasting success or “get rich” in business by being a conformist.”
~ J. Paul Getty
Resist the inclination to apologize for your desire to achieve more than your predecessors. Don’t capitulate to those critics who asks, “Why do you want more than what this great man has achieved?” It is not wrong to follow the trail of those who succeeded before you. However, it is wrong for you to follow their trail if that is not the direction for you. Any great person, who genuinely desires success for you, will tell you that principles are universal, but paths are for the conformist. The only one who truly benefits from a trail is the one who initially produced it. If you want to succeed in life or business, you should seek out new paths rather than travel the worn trails that so many others have accepted as success.
Take your time and don’t rush to make things happen just because you want to be the first to achieve a particular task. Being second is not so bad when you get to pick up the endeavors others have failed at, because you came behind them and learned lessons they failed to learn. This is how wise men succeed and foolish men continue to make blunders.
Ultimate success cannot be measured in how many dollars you collect, but in how many lives your can build up. There are only three people that I believe are among the best people to work for, and they are me, myself and I. The more you like yourself, the less you are like others, which makes you unique. Stand alone as you dream; stand with others as you achieve. Help others live their dream, and you will discover others will help you live yours.
