You always pass failure on the way to success.
–Mickey Rooney
There are five major distractions to experiencing success. When a person capitulates to any of these five culprits, they will inevitably leave an indelible mark in the psyche of the individual. Once your mind changes its course, your actions will seek for ways to live out your new instructions.
- Loss of focus: Everyone who drives realizes how important it is to maintain focus. It is easy to be oscillated into a trance while driving and for this cause rivets have been placed on either side of the road so that when you run over them it makes a noise to shake you back into consciousness. Focus helps you to maintain a sense of purpose and direction.
- The challenges of stress: Stress for average people causes them to fall apart. Whereas, the focused entrepreneur uses pressures to bring out their best. Successful people are seemingly inured to pressures of life that seemingly slow the progress of ordinary individuals.
- Discouragement: Ups and downs are a part of the process for success. It is the material that goes into the making of the successful. Discouragement is simply the displacement of courage, not the absent of it.
- Failure: Some people look at failure as a signal to quit, while others see it as clue to seek out other ways to succeed. You cannot find STOP in failure.
- Fear: This is the number one distraction to success. Fear immobilizes a person. It distorts their view, while at the same time it creates false visuals. Change fear into the “FARE” and it becomes the price of perseverance and the cost of your journey of success.
God created you with the ability to overcome and to withstand the most horrific pressures and difficulties. Don’t allow anything or anyone to stand in your way of living out God’s determination for your life. If you can face it, you can conquer it!

I find this very interesting because numbers 3 & 5 are usually the ones that attack me in my run to success. It is VERY uplifting to hear that we are more than conquerers and that because God has pre-destined success for our lives that nothing should hold us back.
At any given time I have experienced these five major distactions, I need to recognize them for what they are and keep moving. I can do all things…. I just need to operate in the strength that God gives me when the distractions come.
This answers everything that seems to happen every time I take steps into my success. I am grateful for this. It shows what I know I must do to overcome in all these areas. Now I see why at times different situations seem to go against my success. I must change the way I think and believe/act in what God says verses what I see in the outer appearance.
Thank YOU Dr. Brown.
I find the blog very practical as these are emotions people feel when doing something new especially when it comes to living their dreams and moving into what is considered success. It is almost like getting in a pool of water you just have to jump in sometimes and not worry about the tempature.
I’d have to think that the 5 roadblocks to success you mentioned Mikel are experienced by virtually everyone at one point or another. To me, this is very useful for identifying in a generalized way the feelings one experiences on their journey to success.
However, I also feel that the identification of these feelings is just step A. Step B, of course, is what to do with our regressive feelings in order to conquer them. Do you have plans to talk about this in a future post? I’d love to read it.
All of these are very true. Great post! I am adding you to my links under blogs I am reading. Thank you for dropping by my page!
